Yelapa is for outdoorsy folks. You have to take a boat from Puerto Vallarta to get there! If you like the idea of a rustic cabin with a palapa roof and some luxuries you will like Casa Sonrisa. This house has hot water in the shower and kitchen, indoor plumbing of course and is relatively sophisticated compared to many other homes, BUT it is very casual and open to the elements.
There is a tall fence around the property with a gate, mainly to keep small animals out, but also for security. We have electricity now and the house is wired. There is a medium sized refrigerator, a stove with oven, fans and lighting as well as a coffee grinder and stainless steel French Press (glass carafes break easily on the boat ride!). The kitchen is loaded for those of you who love to cook. The sheets and towels are also supplied. You supply your clothes and food. :-)

Family of 2 Adults, 2 Boys [11-12 years old] |
I've had Casa Sonrisa since 1989 and made many improvements along the way. I am a Spanish teacher living in the U.S. most of the year, but visit my home in Yelapa as much as possible. My kids are Spanish speakers too since they have attended a bi-lingual school and spent lots of time in Mexico. My husband is a Storyboard illustrator and enjoys Mexico almost as much as the rest of the family.
My kids and I have our friends and comfort zone in Yelapa and we are looking to expand our Spanish speaking world horizons. We hope to visit other cities in Mexico during our summers off from school. We hope my husband gets to join us as much as possible too. |
